Who is Eligible?

A child with a critical illness who has reached the age of 2½ and is younger than 18 at the time of referral is potentially eligible for a wish.

After a child is referred, Make-A-Wish® will work with the treating physician to determine the child's eligibility for a wish, i.e suffering from a progressive, degenerative or malignant condition currently placing the child's life in jeopardy.

Our vision is to grant one wish to every eligible child. While more than 15,300 wishes were granted across the United States last year alone, this reached only half of the eligible children diagnosed with a critical illness.

  • "I walk to help ensure wish children and their families can experience the joy of a wish. Often the family’s life is overshadowed by the restrictions placed upon the child/family, numerous doctor’s appointments, multiple hospital visits and other limitations or difficulties that they must endure. By walking in the annual Walk for Wishes and raising funds for Make-A-Wish, I can help bring joy to the children and help not only them, but their entire family forget about the challenges that they continue to face every day and experience what makes their child happy – to feel like a kid again." - Todd, wish granter volunteer. Our Walk For Wishes is officially FIVE weeks away! Why will you walk? No matter your reason, your participation makes a world of difference for local children and families.
